1. Join more clubs or activities
One of the big differences between America and China is that there are much more after-school activities in American school. I want to try more things I didn't do in China, such as art club or chorus. Now I have joined chorus and sung in alto 1. In chorus time, we sing many different songs together, although I have never joined any chorus in China, I still think it is not difficult, but really interesting.
2. Improve my English
Because I'm an international student, so my English is not very good. I want to improve it especially listening and speaking when I study in John Carroll. I take English for international and EIS class, and I think I will learn a lot from them this year.
3. Try to study playing tennis
I also joined the tennis team on Friday. I have learned tennis for a short time when I lived in China, but now I think I need to learn again because I almost forget it. I'm not good at sports, but I want to try, I think I will have a good time in tennis team.
4. Make more friends and try to be familiar with American culture
Chinese culture is very different from American, so I need time to be familiar with it. For example, most of Chinese don't believe god, and have no religion. So I have to study it from zero. I want to make more friends in John Carroll too, not only Chinese, but also American. Most of them are very friendly, and the biggest difficulty is communication, so the first thing I need to do is improving my English.
5. Learn another language
I also want to learn another language like French or Spanish next year when my TOEFL grade over 80. I think many things maybe will change after I learn the third language, and it must be amazing. I think I will like it although I can imagine how hard it is that study the third language by the second language.
Ivy, I think you have excellent goals. Good luck in the school year, and please see me if you need help understanding anything we do in class.
